Extra book review

Extra Extra, a book about the difficulties in friendship when you have differences, is a great way to open yourself and be more inclusive. Reading it will make you feel “have I ever done that?” “Is that how the other person felt”? And “Can a few words really hurt so much”? Sara is going to meet her cousins for the first time. She’s going to their house which is in a fishing village called Anjor. Her cousins and she become fast friends, but Sara can’t help noticing that her cousin Shreya is taking much more time in everything they do. As this trip takes an unexpected turn and becomes and adventure and a mystery, Sara wonders if Shreya is understanding everything they say and if her down syndrome is actually slowing them down. But is it? As I read this book, a feeling of mixed emotions came to me. I expected to feel sympathetic but the book’s positive tone didn’t allow that. Instead I felt grateful, for everything, and also this book,...

WHAT I FELT

Image
When I saw Baba in the freezer, my brain stopped processing. I was in such a shock that my brain decided to disbelieve what it saw. I went upstairs to change (I had just come back from school) and felt a small vacuum inside me. Another vacuum that couldn’t be filled. The next day while tying the golden ladder to Baba’s feet, I felt so numb that I couldn’t feel anything. When we went to the funeral place, I had to do a lot of rituals because I was the only representative of the fourth generation. In the end, when the pyre was lit, I couldn’t help to notice the amount of smoke it emitted into the air. I felt bad that even on Baba’s funeral we were harming the atmosphere. When we came back and had that big meal, I got the same feeling I got on Baba’s birthday. Happy, loved, and the feeling of a community. Expect for the fact that Baba wasn’t here. But his soul was eating all the jalebi's and rasmalai's he wanted baba and me

DEAD POET SOCIETY

Dead Poet Society Movie review Dead poet society is a movie in which there is a new type of teaching introduced. Self-learning. Mr. Keating (English teacher) is a new teacher at the school and has a very different mindset on how students should learn and how teachers should teach. In this story, a group of boys form a poetry club called the dead poet society, in which they go to a cave and read out poetry to each other. Mr. Keating loves poetry. He is the founder of the original dead poet society. This movie will make you laugh, cry, scream and get soaked up so much that you think that you are the person in the movie and this all is real!

DEAR BABA

Dear Baba Wow. I don’t really know what to do or say. I was at my school trip and had been gone since early morning so I could not meet you today. When Mamma picked me up from school she told me. She told me that the world I live in is no longer the world you live in. she told me that this world has lost one more fighter and one of its few centurions. I did not get to know the young you, I just knew the old one who took care of the park, took walks, enjoyed the winter sun in the garden and watched Mahabharat with me. And knowing that you was wonderful. I want to know more about the younger you and I guess I will have to ask around for stories. I’m sorry I wasn’t with you when you passed but I heard it was really peaceful and painless. I’m thankful for that. Love, Bambi (the fourth generation) 

A MESSAGE FOR THE TRAFFIC POLICE

Dear police uncle/aunty Thank you so much for working for us tirelessly every day and being there for us and keeping us safe. I know some people do not appreciate how much you do for us. They just think that “ye mera challan katt denge”. I’m not one of those people. You work every day in every weather, be it blazing and humid hot, or shivering cold, just to keep us safe. So please take these cookies and feel the gratitude in it. Happy Rakhi! Thanks so much for everything.

Why does our voice matter?

That’s an interesting question. Many people will say that the reason your voice matters is because you can use it to communicate to other people and help, share and connect with them. That’s a very valid answer because it is important to connect and communicate with other beings but that’s a very obvious reason. In this essay I’m going to give you a way deeper answer to this many layered question.   Leo was walking to the local supermarket very discreetly to buy himself a packet of potato chips. He was listening to everything around him and hoping that no one notices him. What if they laugh at him? He thought. He reached the market just in time to see the man picking up the last packet of his favorite potato chips. He seems to need one more pack and he asks the shopkeeper. He says that he has a full stock at the back. He runs of and gets it for the man. Leo was observing all this and taking valuable information i.e.   1)     There are more of your...
